The main objective of the present research work was to select and evaluate promising coffee (Coffea arabica L.) matrix plants tolerant to rust (Hemileia vastatrix Berk & Br) from four provinces (Rioja, Lamas, Huallaga, El Dorado), in two altitudinal ranges (700 - 1000, 1000 - 1300 m.a.s.l.m.), and three coffee varieties (Caturra, Pache, National) with respect to the rust damage intensity index. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a 4x2x3 factorial arrangement was used, and the data obtained in the field were processed with the SPSS 21 statistical program. The results obtained through the Tukey significance test indicate that the Pache coffee variety was the one that obtained a high intensity of damage (Sig.= 0.003) when compared to the National variety. The Student's t-test determined that there was no significant difference between the two altitudinal levels studied with respect to the rust damage intensity index, since the observed T (0.152) was lower than the probabilistic T (1.657). The conclusion is that at 95% confidence there is a significant difference in four provinces and two altitudinal levels of the San Martin region with respect to the rust damage intensity index in coffee plants (Sig.= 0.000), specifically the province of El Dorado at an altitude of 1000 to 1300 meters above sea level, descriptively presented a mean (2,507.937) of a higher damage intensity index
