Students’ difficulties when resolving math problems, are due to the insufficiency of appropriate strategies and basic knowledge to resolve them. The pedagogical intervention that the teacher carries out, in many cases, doesn’t consider the teaching-learning procedure, based on didactical sequences that involve the development and/or the empowerment of the cerebral quadrants, evidencing low Math learning accomplishments. These referents motivated this basic type research, with a causal cross-sectional design, allowing us to determine the relationship amongst cerebral dominance and math problem solving in fourth grade “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” students of the Educational Institution “Santa Rosa” high school in Tarapoto, 2018. The sample was 60 enrolled students in 2018. In the data collection, for the cerebral dominance variable, a Carlos Alberto Jiménez Vélez (2016) adapted cerebral dominance test was used; as for the math problem solving, an observation guide; both instruments were validated by four experts and relied upon 2 student groups of fourth grade “E” and “I” from the same educational institution. Once the bilateral hypothesis test was carried out with a Pearson 102,555; 34 chi square value, 34 degrees of freedom, 5% asymptotic significance level, and p = 0,000 value less than 0,05; it was concluded that a significant relationship exists amongst cerebral dominance and math problem solving in fourth grade “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” high school students of the Educational Institution “Santa Rosa” in Tarapoto – 2018.
