This study aimed to describe the use of the Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) in controlling carmenta in the San Martín region in 2022. The methodology was descriptive and exploratory, using reliable bibliographic sources and antecedents. It diagnosed the level of carmenta damage in the San Martín region. In addition, the economic cost of using the Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) for carmenta control in cocoa was analyzed. The conclusion was drawn that the level of damage caused by carmenta in the San Martín region appears only in the cocoa crop at three levels. In 10,000/h-1 fruits, 21% have level 1 where the pest is present but does not cause damage, 28% with level 2 where the pest has already caused damage to part of the fruit and is associated with a disease, and 32% with level 3 where the fruits are entirely damaged, causing significant economic damage. The Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) is applied as a preventive and curative measure at all three levels, as it acts by ingestion at the cellular level, thus controlling the attack. In the economic analysis, plots infected with carmenta Foraseminis have reduced their yield to 660 kg/h-1 and quality compared to those where the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) was applied, which managed to increase the quality, the yield to 970 kg/h-1, with a selling price of s/8.46, B/C of 3.90, which means that for each sol invested, s/2.90 is earned, and a profitability of 290,77%. The cost of applying this product is minimal, generating an environmentally friendly impact.
