The general objective of this research was to determine the efficiency of the sleeve biodigester with native microbial consortia in the removal of wastewater from the municipal slaughterhouse of the city of Rioja. The research work is applied, with an experimental research design. A sleeve biodigester with native microbial consortia was used for the removal of wastewater from the municipal slaughterhouse wastewater. The biodigester was constructed out of a polyethylene bag 1.5 m in diameter and 2.5 m long, for a loading capacity of 0.5 m3, which was installed in a trench 1.5 m deep, 2.5 m long and 1.5 m wide. The loading of the sleeve biodigester was of 80 L for its effective operation, adding effective microorganisms in an amount of 30 L, constituted by 30 L of cow rumen and 200 g of Saccharomyces cereviceae yeasts. The fermentation process lasted four weeks. The levels of BOD, COD, N, P and K pre-treatment were: 785.36 mg/L, 2 356.63 mg/L, 1.26%, 0.31% and 0.12% respectively and post-treatment: 485.63 mg/L, 1 325.36 mg/L, 0.45%, 0.163%, and 0.045%. The average organic matter removal efficiency of the wastewater is 0.51%, showing a significant decrease in post treatment compared to pretreatment. Finally, the sleeve biodigester showed a significant 95% efficiency in the removal of wastewater from the municipal slaughterhouse.
