Due to the urban growth of recent years, the district of Tarapoto urgently needs to improve all its streets by carrying out storm drainage works. The continuous rains in the area generate mud slides on the roads, as well as the flooding of houses located in the lower part of the sector, causing discomfort in the population. In order to provide a solution to this problem, we have developed a project that will improve pedestrian and vehicular traffic with the construction of adequate storm drainage for the sector. The research begins by characterising the socio-economic, educational and quality of life level of the inhabitants of the region to support the design field. In order to obtain the elevation differences for the design, topographic surveys were carried out, which included data processing, generation of digital terrain models and acquisition of topographic elevations of the study area. Based on the location of the households and the previously measured relief, the direction and section of the surface water flow, as well as its slope, is drawn on the ground plan. The soil properties in the area are based on analytical studies carried out in the UNSM laboratory. Finally, the existing technical standards for storm drainage design were applied.
