Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with mortality from COVID-19 pneumonia in patients treated at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto in the period from April 2020 to April 2021. Materials and methods: Descriptive, retrospective, correlational cross-sectional study. The study included deceased patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia seen at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto from April 2020 to April 2021, as evidenced in the medical records. The sample consisted of 112 deceased. The data collection technique used was a data registration form. Results: 74.1% (83) were under 65 years of age, 68.8% (77) were male. Amongst the antecedents presented, 86.6% (97) had the following comorbidities: obesity, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus 2 and other diseases including: asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic renal disease, congestive heart failure and leukaemia. Followed by 13.4% (15) presented as oxygen/ventilatory support: oxygen therapy and invasive mechanical ventilation. Acute respiratory failure represented the highest percentage of mortality due to SARS-COV-2 pneumonia in patients treated at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto during the period from April 2020 to April 2021 with 83.9% (94), followed by 6.3% (7) who presented with bacterial super-added pneumonia, 5.4% (6) who presented with septic shock and finally 4.5% (5) who presented with multi-organ dysfunction syndrome. Conclusion: risk factors such as age, sex and history (comorbidities and oxygen/ventilation support) are related to mortality in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
