Objective: To determine the main clinical, epidemiological and surgical characteristics of patients over 18 years old who have undergone surgery for inguinal hernia at Hospital II- 2 Tarapoto between January and September 2019. Methods: It is a quantitative, descriptive, retrospective, transversal and non-experimental study. The sample size was made of 66 patients over 18 years old. Data collection was carried out using a data collection sheet. Results: The predominant signs and symptoms were pain and swelling. The age group between 51 and 70 years old predominated with 43%. Males, of urban origin, predominated. The most frequent type of hernia was indirect with 68%. The right location is more frequent with 56% of cases, 89% did not present complications, 62% of hernias did not present content. The most used surgical procedure was hernioplasty with 97%. It was observed that 92% of the cases did not present post-surgical complications. Conclusions: The most frequent signs and symptoms were pain, followed by swelling. The average age was 51 to 70 years, in the male sex, whose predominant origin was urban. Inguinal hernias were located more on the right side, the indirect type predominates, the most used technique was hernioplasty, without presenting post-surgical complications.
