The objective of this research was to explain the importance of agricultural extension in the cultivation of cocoa in the province of Mariscal Caceres, San Martin region 2022. Regarding the methodology, the study was descriptive and exploratory, using reliable sources and bibliographic references from the last few years. A diagnosis was made of agricultural extension during the last 5 years along with its implications. It is concluded that, 4 382 producers have been maintained, suffering a decrease in extensions from the year 2018 to the year 2022 with less 337 ha-1, as a result of the pandemic in the year 2020. Yields have varied with an average of 844 kg/ha-1, being the lowest in 2019 with 610 kg/ha-1 and the highest in 2022 with 1000 kg/ha-1, likewise the years 2018,2019 and 2020 only 28% of the producers received technical assistance and the years 2021 and 2022 14.2% and 10.2% received technical assistance thanks to productive projects financed by institutions such as DEVIDA, DRASAM, ACOPAGRO, and Alianza Cacao. Through a SWOT analysis, the implications of agricultural extension have strengthened the management of good agricultural practices, pest control, fertilization, access to credit, marketing, generating opportunities such as increased demand with economic dynamism, development of new clones (CCN51), government support, creation of organizations, but there are still weaknesses such as producers who are reluctant to change and manage good practices, are not organized, sell to intermediaries, generating threats of price instability, lack of continuity of projects and policies that promote the development of agriculture.
