Evaluation of the lateral dynamics of the Mayo River, by remote sensing, Gobernador sector 2005-2010 Rivers are very important because they supply water, energy resources and food; however, over the years they suffer changes in their morphology, putting the aquatic environment at risk and the probable destruction of agricultural land, civil infrastructure, economic losses and in some cases human losses depending on the intensity of the impacts. The general objective was "To evaluate the lateral dynamics of the Mayo river, by remote sensing, Gobernador sector 2005-2010". The type of research was basic and the level of the study was descriptive, whose population and sample consisted of the area of the Mayo River in the Gobernador sector. Landsat 5 images were acquired from the USGS platform for each year of study in the period 2005 - 2010. Geometric correction, reflectance conversion and spectral index correction of the satellite images were performed in order to estimate the levels of lateral dynamics of the Mayo River; The time in which the lateral dynamics of the Mayo river was generated, the consolidation of the abandoned meander and the evaluation of the thematic accuracy of the map were also analyzed using the confusion matrix; finally, factors that influenced the lateral dynamics of the Mayo river in the Gobernador sector were determined; satellite images were processed and treated with the ArcGIS 10 program. In addition, descriptive statistics and techniques such as direct observation and documentary and information analysis were used. It was determined that the levels of lateral dynamics of the Mayo River in the Gobernador sector vary according to study periods, whose distances are less than 100 m and during 2005 - 2010 an eroded surface of 3.15 ha and deposited sediments of 8.45 ha was recorded; it was also determined that the lateral dynamics was generated mainly in the period 2005 - 2006, due to the strangulation of the neck of the meander where 4,486,958.74 m3 of soil was eroded, an area of 0.54 ha at a dynamic distance of 65.63 m, in addition, between 2008 - 2010 the abandoned meander was consolidated in an area of 8.12 ha and the Kappa index (0.80) indicated that the processes developed were correct by expressing a considerable concordance force; Finally, it was determined that factors such as climatic and hydrological variations, geological, physiographic and geomorphological characteristics, as well as anthropic factors were those that influenced the lateral dynamics of the river. It is concluded that the lateral dynamics of the Mayo River in the Gobernador sector presented variations, determined by remote sensing with the ArcGIS 10.8 program.
