The present study entitled "Risk factors associated with complicated acute appendicitis in adult patients. Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, January to December 2019" had as general objective to find the risk factors associated with the diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis in adult patients of Hospital II-2 in the period January to December 2019. Likewise, the methodology was correlational and the design was non-experimental and cross-sectional. The sample was made up of 144 adult patients. Regarding the technique, a survey was used and a questionnaire was used as an instrument. The main results were that the risk factors that were significantly related to the diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis were the time delay from the beginning of symptoms to the hospital, time between the beginning of symptoms and surgery (hours), time of hospitalization, while the factors that were not related to the diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis were age, sex and time between hospital admission and surgery. Finally, the factor that has a significant relationship, but with less strength, is the area of origin, all of them having a p value < 0.05. The conclusion was that not all risk factors are associated with complicated acute appendicitis, including sex and age, and the time elapsed between hospital admission and surgery.
