Objectives: To determine the factors associated with postoperative complications of cholecystectomy in the Hospital MINSA II-2 Tarapoto in the period January - December 2019. Materials and Methods: An observational and retrospective study was conducted on 69 patients who presented some postoperative complication from 386 cholecystectomy operations. The association between patient-related factors and surgery to a postoperative complication was studied. Results: 17.74% of the overall series presented some postoperative complication, mainly pain (97%); followed by vomiting (20%); ISO (7%); abscess, peritonitis, ileus, bleeding and airway obstruction (4% each); bile leak, eventration and liver dysfunction (1% each). Postoperative complications were not associated with patient related factors (gender, age, or comorbidities); but they were associated with surgery related factors such as >120 min. is associated with pain and <60 min. is associated with peritonitis and bleeding; the finding of an edematous gallbladder is associated with bleeding and peritonitis; a normal gallbladder is dissociated from complications and a dirty surgical wound is associated with vomiting. Conclusion: Postoperative complications of conventional cholecystectomy depend to a lesser extent on patient-related factors and to a great extent on surgery-related factors; an open cholecystectomy with a surgical operation time of 60 to 120 min, with a gallbladder with normal characteristics without edema, avoids postoperative complications.
