The present research is entitled "Incidence of the benchmark interest rate on the economic growth of Peru, period 2005-2020"; and the research problem arose from the need to know the importance of the decision making by the monetary authority regarding one of the policy instruments it uses most (the benchmark rate). The aim was to know what is the relationship of this very important instrument in the growth of our country during the last 16 years. The general objective of the study was to determine the incidence of the benchmark interest rate on Peru's economic growth during the 2005-2020 period. Likewise, the specific objectives were to determine the behavior of the benchmark rate, when it varies, and its relationship with economic growth. Concerning the methodology used in the present study, the research was applied, at a correlational level, with a non-experimental design. A simple linear regression model was used under the Ordinary Least Squares method. The techniques applied were data collection and documentary analysis, and the data were processed using Eviews and Excel software. The population consisted of the BCRP's documentary collection for the 16 years of study of both variables. The research results show that there is a high correlation between the variables. The reference rate explains 71.68% of the level of the Gross Domestic Product growth rate for the period 2005-2020. Regarding the incidence generated by a reduction or increase in the benchmark interest rate by the BCRP, it was determined that the relationship with the rate of GDP variation is directly proportional. It was observed that the coefficient of the independent variable is 2.82, which means that if the benchmark interest rate is increased by one unit (percentage point), economic growth will increase by 2.82 units.
