ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to determine the genera of cyst-forming nematodes of the subfamily Heteroderinae present in soil and root samples from potato-producing fields in the San Isidro, San Fernando, Santa Rosa, Munday Muchiquil, Carabamba and Tupac Amaru hamlets from the Carabamba district, in Julcán, La Libertad. The soil was sieved and dried at room temperature for 10 days; then, the average number of cysts in 100 cc of soil was extracted and counted, as well as. the average number of cysts in 5 grams of roots. Subsequently, 10 cysts per sample were taken at random and sections were made from the perineal region to determine the number of striae, distance between vulva and anus, fenestra diameter and Graneck's radius. Similarly, in second instar juveniles, body length, tail length, size and shape of the basal nodes of the style were measured. The results show 85.7% of de samples presented cysts in a range of 18 to 1056 per 100 cc of soil and 2 to 215 in 5 grams of roots. Based on the characteristics of the perineal region, 91% of the cyst-forming nematodes identified in the study area corresponded to Globodera pallida and 9% to Globodera rostochiensis.
