Determine the relationship between overweight-obesity and the level of self-esteem in medical students. Methodology: A cross-sectional analysis was carried out with 242 students between 17-30 years old, who were chosen by a random study. Using the Rosenberg scale, their level of self-esteem was found and using their BMI they were classified into two groups: overweight-obesity and without overweight-obesity. Results: Of all the students, 50% were overweight-obese. 63.6% of the total presented a high level of self-esteem. A significant relationship was not found between overweight-obesity and the level of self-esteem (p>0.05), but it was found between age and sex with the level of self-esteem (p<0.05). It was found that students between 22-25 years old and male are those who presented a high level of self-esteem. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between sex and overweight-obesity (p<0.05), with males being the most affected (p<0.05). Conclusions: No significant relationship was found between the level of self-esteem and overweight-obesity in medical students. However, an evaluation was found between the level of self-esteem and age, with students aged 22 – 25 years being those who had higher levels of self-esteem. Likewise, an evaluation was found between the level of self-esteem and sex, with males having the highest levels of self-esteem. Finally, an evaluation was found between sex| and the presence of overweight or obesity, with men being the most affected by this condition.
