The objective of this research was to evaluate the seasonal variability of the composition of the essential oil of Aloysia citrodora Paláu and its antioxidant capacity. Leaves of A. citrodora were collected from the town center of Santa Rosa and Calquis district, San Miguel province, Cajamarca Region, during winter and spring. Later, it was identified in the Truxillense Herbarium of the National University of Trujillo. The essential oils were extracted through Clevenger and steam extraction equipment. Its composition was determined in the gas chromatograph coupled to a mass spectrometer and the antioxidant capacity was evaluated by the DPPH and FRAP method. It was determined that the compounds with the highest percentage of abundance were D-Limonene, α-Citral and β-Citral, in both seasons, in both areas. However, only in the Calqui District were the presence of Copaene, Citronellal, Eugenol, Terpinen-4-ol and P-mint-1,4(8)-diene observed during the winter. The antioxidant capacity by DPPH and FRAP of the essential oil of Aloysia citrodora Paláu is greater in samples collected during winter. It is concluded that the essential oil of Aloysia citrodora Paláu presents seasonal variability in its components, due to various environmental factors.
