ABSTRACT The main objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of five different types of substrate for the cultivation of avocado (Persea americana Mill. var Zutano) under nursery conditions, taking into account parameters such as stem diameter and plant height. The data analysis was initially carried out using the variance analysis test (ANOVA) with a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 repetitions. In addition, for the comparison between treatment groups, the Tukey multiple comparison test was performed considering a 95% probability. The results showed that the T3 treatment, which contained 50% agricultural soil, 33.33% river sand and 16.7% peat as substrate, obtained the highest plant height at 120 days of cultivation, with an average of 40.4925 cm. In relation to the diameter, the T3 treatment also obtained the highest average with a value of 0.71775 cm. On the other hand, treatment T4 (50% agricultural soil, 10% river sand, 15% rice husk, 25% humus) obtained the highest mean in leaf count with an average value of 19,575, followed by treatment T3 with an average of 18,475. In conclusion, of the 5 types of substrates evaluated, treatment T3 (50% agricultural soil, 33.33% river sand, 16.67% peat) was the most efficient for the cultivation of avocado (Persea americana Mill. var Zutano) under nursery conditions because it was the best in obtaining the highest parameters in height, plant diameter and number of leaves.
