A study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the efficiency of ametropia treatment, comparing refractive surgery with Laser in Situ Keratomileusis(LASIK) against the use of lenses and contact lenses, using a cost-utility analysis. The utility in QALYs (Quality Adjusted Life Years) was determined by applying the Quality of Life Impact of Refractive Correction (QIRC) questionnaire to a sample of 150 patients, between 18 and 40 years old, of which 50 used lenses, 50 contact lenses and 50 were operated on with Lasik, costs were calculated from the patient's perspective. The cost of refractive surgery treatment was S/ 3 650 and its usefulness of 9.47 AVAC, over a time horizon of 11.5 years, being the cost-utility reason of 385.47, while for lens treatment it was 455.13 and for contact lenses 1357.14. Refractive surgery treatment is found to be more efficient.
