Abstract This research provides an overview of the use of social cues in conversational agents from a multidisciplinary perspective. The use of a systematic mapping helped to obtain this overview through a classification that was based on the taxonomy of Feine et al. for the extraction of social cues; this entire classification was based on the sub-research questions answered through the 40 studies selected within the mapping. A frequent use of the social cues "suggestions and advice" was found within the studies included in the mapping, this is due to the fact that a common objective in the conversational agents is to help the user since the application area as recommendation systems had a greater presence in the results of this study. On the other hand, gaps were found in the research regarding some categories of the classification and another such as lack of studies in the Spanish-speaking community
