Objective: The purpose of this work was to determine the causes of extraction in patients treated in the second specialization unit in stomatology at UNT, 2018. Materials and methods: The study is retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive and observational. The sample consisted of 72 medical records. The author proceeded to collect medical records according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, collecting the necessary results. The tables were prepared in numbers and percentages and the Chi Square test was also used to demonstrate the significance between the causes of extraction with age and gender. Results: The most common causes for extraction in adult patients were 51.4% due to dental caries, 36.1% due to periodontal disease and 12.5% had third wisdom molars. Conclusions: It was concluded that dental caries is the first cause for extraction of a tooth.
