The objective of this research was to determinate if there is a relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and work stress in nurses from hospitals I of the La Libertad Assistance Network. A quantitative, descriptive correlational study was carried out from January to December 2019 in a sample of 94 nurses. The following were used: The Bar On emotional intelligence questionnaire adapted to Spanish and the occupational stress questionnaire based on The Nursing Stress Scale by Pamela Gray Toft and James G. The information was entered into the IBM SPSS STATISTICS Version 25 program to determine the relationship between both study variables, the “Chi square” criteria independence test was used considering a level of significance p≤0.05 and the normality of the data was analyzed with the Kolmogorov Smirnov test. The following results were achieved: 64.9 percent of nurses had a highly developed and adequate level of emotional intelligence and 46.8 percent had a high level of work stress. It was concluded that there is a significant correlation (p=0.026) between the level of emotional intelligence and work stress.
