ABSTRACT The present study is oriented to determine the Driving Efficiency of the Irrigation System of the Lateral Channel 6, which serves to irrigate the areas of the Irrigation Commissions Lateral 6 of the Users Board of the Chao Irrigation District. The data used in the present work were collected directly from the study areas that are: the driving channel and the respective distribution channels; other data necessary for the preparation of this work have been provided by the Board of Users of the Chao Irrigation District, the jurisdiction of ALA La Libertad. The main channel Lateral 6 is currently covered, it supplies water for irrigation to a total of 423 agricultural properties directly benefiting 357 users and covers a potential area of 1568.37 irrigated hectares, of which 1431.76 hectares are under the license regime and 115.26 hectares are under the permit regime, covers a length of 8,400 meters. And it has a maximum capacity of 1,120 m ^ 3 / s. In this Irrigation Commission, only one Irrigation block has been created and directly benefits the Side 6 user commission. During the evaluation of the Driving Efficiency (Ec), we analyzed the state of operation and maintenance of the main channel Side 6 or bypass from the source of supply from Progressive 0 + 000 until it begins to distribute the water in the side channels of second order, starting in Progressive 0 + 039.490 channel SUR I and ending in Progressive 8 +400.739 where the PANAMERICAN and LUNAR LOW channels are located. The method used to determine driving efficiency was based on flow measurement work by the Correntometer method, obtaining an inlet flow, distribution and outlet in the section of the Main Canal, evaluating the inlet flow, then 76 meters downstream. from the LATERAL intake 6 and about 100 meters downstream from the ALZA intake, which allowed us to know the volume of water lost through infiltration, resulting in 51.16 lts / s and 57.81 lts / s in the first and second measurement of the flow. It was possible to conclude with the Driving Efficiency Calculation obtaining 89.49 %; as a result of the gauging performed, they allow us to have a hydrometric record and at the same time these obtained data allow us to achieve greater efficiency in the programming, execution and evaluation of water management in the present irrigation channels.
