The research aims to stabilize the physicochemical parameters in the composting of the Pierina Mining Unit using Stipa ichu blankets. In this context, three specific objectives were established: to analyze the state of the compost without microclimate, to evaluate the changes after the implementation of the microclimate with Stipa ichu and to compare both methods. Before the use of Stipa ichu, the compost showed limitations in the thermophilic phase, due to suboptimal temperatures and humidity levels that limited the decomposition of organic matter. After the implementation of Stipa ichu, a greater stability of temperature, pH and humidity parameters was evidenced, favoring microbial activity in the critical phases of composting and achieving more effective decomposition. During the maturation phase, the reduction of humidity and temperature indicated lower microbial activity, so continuous monitoring is recommended to ensure optimal conditions in this phase. In addition, analysis of the carbon/nitrogen ratio showed progressive decomposition, with a decrease in nutrients in advanced stages of composting. Overall, the study shows the efficacy of Stipa ichu in improving composting under adverse climatic conditions, proposing an adequate management of these parameters to obtain a high quality compost.
