The present research aims to identify whether there is a relationship between the degree of dominance power and the credit risk in credit cards and mortgage loans in the multiple banking sector of Peru during the period 2012-2023. To do so, financial information is extracted from Peruvian banks belonging to the multiple banking sector and a robust static panel data model is used. The results indicate a robust relationship between the degree of dominance power measured through the HHI index and the Lerner index, and the credit risk of credit cards and mortgage loans. On the one hand, in the case of credit cards, the dominance power measured with the HHI index presents a positive effect on the credit risk, on the contrary, using the Lerner index as a measure, which presents a negative effect on the credit risk for this type of credit. On the other hand, in the case of mortgage loans, the dominance power using both the HHI index and the Lerner index as a measure presents a negative effect on the credit risk for this type of credit. This paper seeks to provide new knowledge on the behavior of the banking market, improving the analysis of credit risk in Peru. Finally, this research can be helpful for bank managers and supervisory bodies when making strategies and decisions to strengthen banking stability.
