This paper analyzes the impact of natural resources and institutional quality on economic growth across 15 Latin American countries over the period from 1996 to 2019. Empirical findings indicate that an abundance of natural resources contributes positively to economic growth, while high institutional quality enhances this effect by fostering a stable environment that supports investment and sustainable development. Contrary to the "resource curse" hypothesis, which suggests that resource-rich countries may experience slower growth due to institutional and economic challenges, our results show that natural resources and institutional quality independently drive growth. The interaction term between natural resources and institutional quality does not yield a significant impact, implying that their direct contributions are more influential. To address potential endogeneity concerns, the study applies the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) using instrumental variables, allowing for robust estimation of the variables' effects. These results underscore the need to strengthen institutional frameworks to maximize the benefits of natural resource wealth. Policy recommendations include a focus on institutional improvements and sustainable resource management to support long-term economic growth in Latin America.
