This thesis project focuses on the intersection of Nicolás Arriola Avenue and Canadá Avenue, located in the La Victoria district. The objective is to optimize travel times in this study area. To achieve this, Vissim software was used, which allows for traffic microsimulation by analyzing vehicle and pedestrian flow, as well as traffic light cycles at the intersection. Calibration was performed by adjusting Wiedemann parameters, specifically using Wiedemann 74, to ensure that the simulation accurately reflects real traffic conditions. The evaluated parameters included travel times and levels of service. Subsequently, the simulation was validated. The main proposal involves adjusting the traffic light cycle, resulting in a significant reduction in travel times and an improvement in service levels. Specifically, travel times on Canadá Avenue decreased by 23%. In terms of service levels, the Nicolás Arriola Avenue intersection in the North-South direction remained at level E, while the South-North direction improved from F to E. Additionally, service levels for Canadá Avenue in both directions (East-West) improved from F to E. These results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed in traffic management at the analyzed intersection.
