Introduction: Family planning is both a right and a tool that allows you to decide the number of children you want to have or even choose not to have them. Its importance lies in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and their possible consequences. According to the 2021 Demographic and Family Health Survey, contraceptive methods are interrupted in the following proportions: oral contraceptives in 52.6%, male condoms in 50.9%, monthly and quarterly contraceptive injections in 44.5%, and subdermal implants in a 7.2% Objective: To determine the associated factors that influence the discontinuation of hormonal contraceptive methods in users of the Cusco Regional Hospital, 2024. Method: Based on the nature of the research, this is an observational and quantitative correlational study. The sample included 168 women of reproductive age who had discontinued a hormonal contraceptive method. A data collection form, previously validated by experts in the field, was used and then analyzed using hypothesis testing. Results: Factors associated with discontinuation of hormonal contraceptive methods in women of childbearing age include age (p < 0.001), occupation (p < 0.006), and marital status (p < 0.002). Among the sociocultural factors, family influence stood out as the most significant (p < 0.000). Other associated factors were knowledge about the family planning service and its free nature (p < 0.00), along with the availability of contraceptive methods (p < 0.000). Regarding the side effects that contribute to the abandonment of these methods, weight gain, amenorrhea, irregular bleeding, headache and mood changes stand out (p < 0.000). Conclusions: Factors such as age, occupation, marital status, family influence, knowledge of family planning services and their free availability, availability of contraceptive methods, and side effects, show a significant relationship with the discontinuation of hormonal contraceptive methods.
