This non-experimental research of descriptive transactional design described the semiotic characteristics of Coca-Cola's graphic publicity according to Roland Barthes Binary Model. The instrument used to collect the results of the research was a content registration form, previously validated by expert judgement, which made it possible to identify the semiotic characteristics of each of the Coca-Cola brand's graphic advertisements. Ten graphic advertisements from the last 50 years were selected by means of a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Inclusion criteria were: to be Coca-Cola display advertising between 1950 and 2000, to be in English or Spanish, to be relevant to the brand's advertising history, and to have adequate accessibility and visual quality. It was concluded that the semiotic characteristics of Coca-Cola's graphic advertising according to Roland Barthes' Binary Model not only use creative images, suggestive phrases and colors representative of the brand, they are also known for addressing issues of the moment and generating a feeling of belonging with the consumer, which motivates and guarantees their choice and preference for the brand.
