Introduction: Hypertension is a public health problem that requires comprehensive management, being a pillar in its control for the hypertensive, the knowledge they have about their disease that strengthens their quality of life, adoption of preventive measures and adherence to treatment, reducing the risks of complications of the disease. Objective: To determine the association between knowledge and self-care of hypertensive patients in the city of Tamshiyacu, Loreto, 2022. Methodology: A quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, prospective and correlational study was conducted; interviewing 112 patients withdiag nostic hypertension in the city of Tamshiyacu, applying a questionnaire of 20 questions to determine the level of knowledge and a Likert questionnaire of 16 premises that evaluate the self-care of hypertensive patients. Results: 59.8% of the hypertensive patients interviewed presented an adequate level of knowledge, which was associated with the female sex (p=0.005) and with the receipt of disease information (p=0.031); 39.1% presented adequate self-care, associated with age (p=0.037), female sex (p=0.001) and with the receipt of information about their disease (p=0.01). 47.8% of hypertensive patients with an adequate level of knowledge about hypertension presented adequate self-care (p = 0.025). Conclusion: The adequate level of knowledge about the disease significantly allows adequate self-care on the part of the hypertensive patient
