The present study called “Determination of the critical overflow sections of the Nanay River using the HEC - RAS model in Iquitos city, Maynas province - Loreto department” has been carried out in the area of Nanay basin, specifically, in the section adjacent to the Iquitos city, from the sector Almendras Port to the mouth on the Amazon River in a length of 42.4 Km, the districts of San Juan Bautista, Iquitos and Punchana in the department of Loreto Main objective of the study is use of free hydraulic model known as HEC RAS (Hydrologic Enginnering Center - River Analyst System) to determine the critical flood sections of the Nanay River by estimated avenue flows for different return periods. The flood limit information from the drone study conducted by the UCP. For the hydrological analysis, the maximum flow information of the SENAMHI of the H-Sedaloreto station was used. In the field, a detailed bathymetry of the river was carried out, complemented with satellite information for the elaboration of the Digital Terrain Model, the current flows together with the hydraulic parameters were obtained with differential gauges with the equipment called ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profile). Hydraulic modeling is complemented by the GIS (Geographic Information System) through the HEC GeoRAS extension that interacts from the generation of the MDT, import of geometric terrain data, cross sections of the river, talweg, etc. for the subsequent preparation of maps flooding and zoning of critical sectors. Maximum flows of 1891 and 2011 m3/s were obtained for return periods of 50 and 100 years respectively. Five critical sectors were determined, the M3 meander located in front of the potable water plant in Iquitos city being in the process of throttling and subsequent lateral displacement.
