Introduction: The neonatal death rate in our country is one of the highest in Latin America, mothers are the protective factor of reducing this rate, with adequate nutrition, recreation, recognition of signs and symptoms of alarm, vaccination and rest of the newborn. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge of mothers about the care of the newborn in AAHH Moronacocha – Iquitos. Material and methods: The study was quantitative, descriptive, transversal, retrospective and correlal; evaluating 177 mothers between the ages of 15 and 34 years of age of AAHH Moronacocha, applying a questionnaire on the knowledge of newborn care of 31 questions, which explores food, hygiene, stimulation, rest and sleep, alarm signs and postvaccination care. Results: 41.2% with good knowledge, 38.4% regular and 20.3% bad; dimensions with good level were stimulation (50.3%), feeding (49.2%), and signs/symptoms of alarm (46.3%), regular on rest and sleep (48.6%) and bad about vaccination (45.2%). Age, instruction, number of children and reception of information influence the level of knowledge of mothers. Conclusion: Most AAHH Moronacocha mothers have a good level of knowledge about newborn care.
