The study was carried out in Rumo Cocha village, which is located 5 km. south west of Iquitos, on the right bank of the Nanay River, east of Santa Clara town. The objective was the characterization of household solid waste generated in this community. The design was non-experimental and the applied research was quantitative, descriptive and analytical. The study population was 774 homes; therefore, the sample is made up of 75 homes. For the statistical procedure, the Excel spreadsheet and the use of descriptive statistics, frequency and percentage average were used; obtaining the following results: regarding the cleaning service, 75% stated that they do not have access to the service, it should be noted that 56% said that the garbage truck passes by the community, also 96% of the population does not classify their waste, 61% use plastic bags, however, 93% do not know the final destination of their waste. In this way, 94% of the solid waste generated is made up of organic waste (organic material); 2% is made up of plastic waste (plastic, bags, etc.), 3% is made up of paper and cardboard and, 1% is made up of glass. The generation of waste per capita is 0.604 kg / inhabitant / day; with a generation of 0.467 tons / day; 14.02 ton / month and 168.29 ton / year of annual waste, with a density of 27.637 kg / m3. Based on the results obtained, information is available on the type and amount of waste generated in homes and it is necessary to implement a management plan for this solid household waste since it affects the population and the landscape of the place.
