The phenomenon of population aging and advances in knowledge of the pathologies that affect older adults make it possible to guide health care from a preventive approach aimed at improving self-care by promoting a change in attitude in their lifestyle. Objective: Analyze the attitude of the elderly associated with an educational program on “self-care” in a hospital in Iquitos, 2023. Material and method: The present study is quantitative, application because it worked with a pre-test before the educational program and a post-test after a week, with a population of 40 older adults who attend the strategy for the elderly in a hospital. Iquitos; The sample was all attending older adults who agreed to participate in the study by signing informed consent and who met the inclusion criteria. An adapted and validated instrument was applied that evaluated the dimensions of attitude in eating, rest and sleep, personal hygiene and attitude in caring for the environment. To verify the hypothesis, the nonparametric test was applied for data without normal distribution. Result: Of the older adults who participated in the research, 67.5% were female and 32.5% were male. In terms of education, 55% had primary education and 27.5% had secondary education and only 7.5% had higher education; 75% live with someone, 50% are independent in terms of income; Regarding the creed that they profess, 72.5% report being Catholic. 72.5% had a positive attitude before the educational intervention and after the educational intervention they had a 95% positive attitude In the food dimension, 70% agreed to consume healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and that consuming red meat is harmful to the body, 70% also agreed; In the dimension of rest and sleep, 100% said they agreed that you should sleep 7 to 8 hours since it helps you recover energy and 85% said that sitting too much is bad for the body; In the dimension of personal hygiene, drinking water and changing clothes is important in 97.5%. In the dimension of caring for the environment, 95% stated that they should keep the house clean and tidy to avoid falls; In the comparison of the educational program, it is evident that the average score after the educational intervention has increased to 133.15 with a minimum of 92 and a maximum of 148 values that exceed the scores before the intervention; Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted with p<0.001. Conclusion: the educational intervention had a positive effect to improve the attitude of the elderly towards self-care of the elderly; Therefore, it is suggested to continue doing application-type research to improve the quality of life in people at different stages of life.
