The present study aimed to address the following research question: What is the prevalence of Plasmodium using the thick smear technique at the Centro de Atención Primaria II Caballococha EsSalud from January to December 2021? The research objective was: To determine the prevalence of Plasmodium using the thick smear technique at the Centro de Atención Primaria II Caballococha EsSalud from January to December 2021. Material and methods: The present research is of a quantitative and retrospective nature, with a non-experimental, descriptive design. A sample of 352 patients who were requested to undergo thick smear testing was used. For data analysis, the statistical package SPSS V.25 was employed. Results: After quantifying thick smears from the 352 patients who attended the Centro de Atención Primaria II Caballococha EsSalud from January to December 2021, 16 cases (4.55%) tested positive. Among these cases, 12 were male (75.00%) and 4 were female (25.00%). It is noteworthy that the most significant incidence of positive cases was found in males in the 21 to 30 age group, with a total of 5 cases (41.67%), while females in the same age range had 2 positive cases (40.00%). Additionally, one case (100.00%) of Plasmodium falciparum was identified in the 31 to 40 age group. Conclusions: Malaria is a relatively low concern among the population served by the Centro de Atención Primaria II Caballococha EsSalud during the year 2021. However, it is essential to maintain continuous surveillance and appropriate preventive measures, particularly in high-risk groups like young adults, to keep the disease under control in the region.
