The objective of this research work was to determine the soil conditions of the San Jose hamlet km. 22, Iquitos - Nauta highway (San Juan Bautista - Maynas - Loreto) for the applicability of the Basic Sanitation Units (BSU) as a technological solution to the sanitation problem in this hamlet. The soil mechanics study allowed the identification of the characteristics of the sectors of the studied area through the extraction of samples of soil pits in previously selected areas, using as a method the identification of soils with similar and uniform characteristics, which were determined by nature; laboratory tests for soil classification, field prospecting to obtain the phreatic level and infiltration tests, according to the guidelines of the technical norms for soil and basic sanitation studies in force, so that the optimum types of Basic Sanitation Units (BSU) to be applied in the community could be defined, allowing the best choice to be correctly decided. The type of research was descriptive and experimental, corresponding to a pre-experimental design with a single-group post-test. The sample consisted of the predominant types of soil in the entire sector of (San José - San Juan Bautista - Maynas - Loreto). The technique used for data collection was the observation guide and documentary analysis. The main result was: In all the sectors of land surrounding the pits 01 and 08 there is a predominance of sandy-loamy soil respectively with medium and fast infiltration capacities, deep water table and non-floodable character, which allows the applicability of the UBS of Hydraulic Dragging with Biodigester and infiltration trench.
