Technological development in responsible mining is related to the implementation of equipment and processes that allow them to optimize their operations. The objective of this important sector is to have sustainable mining, prioritizing safety and improving the productivity of its operations. Taking into account the above, an important mining company needs to constantly improve the safety of workers and their emergency management, as well as digitalizing the mine, identifying the number of people and vehicles they have in the operation that allows them to manage and optimize the process and the well-being of the mining workers. Due to this need, the implementation of a people and vehicle tracking solution was proposed that allows real-time identification, processing and analysis of data for better decision-making related to the safety, well-being and productivity of operations. For the deployment of the solution, a network infrastructure with Wi-Fi coverage was implemented inside the mine, which allowed the tracking software to obtain data from remote devices and the information to be transmitted through the communication network to the control center on the surface. After implementing the tracking solution, it was possible to identify in real time the location and number of workers and vehicles inside the mine, as well as improve the response time to emergency situations by instantly identifying people and equipment that are in the possible affected area due to an event in the mining operation (among others, rockfall, run over, accident due to falling from a height, gassing, health events that may put their lives at risk).
