This study has focused on the modelling between Micaela Bastidas and Universitaria avenues using Vissim software for microsimulation of the area. The research work began with the study of the area and the collection of data, which includes vehicle counting, traffic light cycles, travel times and road sizing. Once this data was obtained, a base model of the current situation of the intersections was designed in detail. The objective was to propose a redesign to be able to optimize travel times and improve the level of service in public transport. The redesign included the proposal of segregated lanes on avenues, optimization of traffic light times and improvements in the transport infrastructure, to improve the management of the public transport system. The identification of public transport problems at the intersection allowed us to know the factors that increase travel times between these avenues, concluding that the lack of adequate infrastructure and the current traffic light cycles generated a high vehicular demand during peak hours, initially obtaining F service levels in the current situation. Applying the recommendations of the Nacto guide, adequate lane widths for buses were established in a range of 3.35 m to 3.96 m and a lane width of 3.05 m to 3.50 m for light vehicles. Islands were added in the middle of the intersection, achieving a redesign that better adapts to the intersection and considers lane widths by vehicle typology. Likewise, the entrances to the north and south accesses for buses were improved, adding a segregated lane for each one, with exclusive use for public transport, achieving an improvement in the travel times of these lanes with a time of 9.98 seconds in the north access and a time of 7.75 seconds in the south access. By entering the aforementioned parameters in the VISSIM software and readjusting the traffic light cycle, significant improvements were obtained in the service levels and in the travel times after the implementation of the 120-second traffic light cycle, obtaining a reduction in the initial service levels on Av. Universitaria, going from a level F to a level D and on Av. Micaela Bastidas, going from a service level F to a service level E.
