The study addressed improving a road intersection which presented congestion and safety problems, where its main problem was left turns. The current intersection featured an E service level, high vehicular delays, and 32 conflict points, requiring effective solutions to ensure smoother and safer circulation for users. For this reason, an innovative offset left turn (DLT) redesign was implemented, which included adjustments to the entrances. In addition, using the Vissim software, a microsimulation of the current intersection was developed, calibrated and validated with precision. This proved effective in reducing congestion and improving traffic flow. In addition, the current intersection design with the DLT will be evaluated in terms of service level, vehicular delays, and conflict points. The comparison between the current design and the DLT showed a significant improvement in service level and delays. The service level went from E to C, and delays were significantly reduced. In addition, the points of conflict were reduced. These findings highlight the importance of addressing congestion and improving road safety at the intersection. DLT design is presented as a viable and effective solution to optimize traffic flow. This study is expected to provide a solid foundation for future improvements to the intersection of Bertello and Canta Callao avenues.
