This study proposes the use of piles as a retaining structure to stabilize a slope in a road project in the district of San Vicente de Cañete. In this regard, the case of piles subjected to horizontal loads is analyzed, stresses that are analyzed by the p-y curve method and through the finite element method (FEM), which addresses a solution through the interaction of various variables that accompany the general equation of finite elements that governs the behavior of the structure studied. It is known that the variables in the soil are non-linear due to the diverse presence of variable strata and its heterogeneity, in addition to the influence of simplifications that cause empirical methods to be insufficient to closely approximate the behavior of the soil and the structure. For this purpose, the finite element method was used using input variables characterized according to the study area and defined by geotechnical tests, in order to more accurately approximate the real behavior of the soil and the structure that interacts with it, and compare them with the results obtained by the empirical method of p-y curves. As a result, modeling by the finite element method presents a more robust analysis of the interaction between soil and structure, besides applying empirical methods like the p-y curves method. Likewise, the structural calculation resulting from the resulting forces was lower with the finite element method.
