The objective of this work of professional competence is to analyze the impact of the proper application of IAS 16 in the financial statements of the company Liners S.A. The problematic situation faced by Liners S.A. revolves around the absence of an analysis of the recognition and useful life of its fixed assets in accordance with IAS 16, altering the presentation of the financial statements. The methodology used for this work is based on a qualitative approach and a review of scientific literature. The tools used for the collection of information were interviews with specialists with knowledge on the subject and the analysis of background information from various authors related to the problematic situation. For the problematic situation, three alternatives were proposed to evaluate them and choose the alternative that best reflects its viability in the company. The analysis of the chosen alternative included evaluating the assets based on IAS 16, so that if they do not comply with the standards, they should be recorded directly in the income statement as part of the cost of sales. It is concluded that the company has omitted the criteria of IAS 16 to account for its fixed assets according to their capacity to generate future benefits and their measurement with reliability, altering the presentation of the financial statements. In addition, it is recommended that Liners S.A. perform an exhaustive evaluation of the recognition of its assets ensuring that they meet the criteria of IAS 16.
