In recent years, the PVC sector has advanced towards more sustainable production through extrusion technologies and management tools that enable material recycling and reduce the use of raw materials and energy. Companies like Tarkett and SABIC have implemented innovations that decrease resource consumption and improve PVC quality. In Peru, Plastimex and Industrias Plásticas del Perú have adopted similar techniques, optimizing their processes and reducing costs to meet sustainability and efficiency demands. These changes also aim to mitigate the impact of the crisis generated by the 2020 pandemic, which affected the sector and society. This work presents the issue of low efficiency in the Extrusion subprocess of a leading company in its sector, which limits its capacity to meet demand. In 2023, the efficiency of this process was 61.9%, impacting sales by around S/ 13 million. Key causes were diagnosed: format change (46.3%), machine stoppages (37.9%), and manufacturing errors (5.1%). To address these gaps, SMED, Autonomous Maintenance, and the 5S were implemented as part of the Lean Manufacturing philosophy, with the objective of optimizing processes and reducing failures. As a result, the efficiency of the Extrusion subprocess increased by reducing format change time in 80% of the initial value, machine stoppage time due to minor failures in 79.9%, and production error times to 79.8%.
