This research study examines the drawback of decreased productivity in a plastics company due to machine failures and set-up process stoppages. The company's efficiency stands at 69.56%, below the industry average of 81.06%. The decrease in efficiency results in a financial impact of $159,034.00, which equates to approximately 20.03% of projected revenue. The main factors found to contribute to the company's low efficiency include production line failures, stoppages for mold changeovers, and inappropriate or incorrect activities. This drawback negatively impacts the company's profitability, as it is closely related to production and product quality. The importance of this issue lies in the fact that the plastics industry is one of Peru's economic pillars; therefore, if companies in this area fail to maintain an above-average level of efficiency, this will result in a reduction of the sector's contribution to the country’s PBI. In addition, a drop in efficiency could impair the company's ability to compete in the market, which could translate into a decrease in customer base and revenues. To increase the company's efficiency, it is crucial to look for solutions and in this case study the solutions will be developed with three main tools of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, SMED and 5S. In this sense, the application of Lean Manufacturing is suggested as a remedy to address the stated problem and boost efficiency in the company.
