The variability and seasonality of river discharges in Peru, influenced by the El Niño phenomenon and climate change, lead to periods of drought and significant floods during peak flows, impacting the economy, agricultural production, and infrastructure. This research aims to determine the design flow for the spillway of the Iruro Dam, located in Ayacucho, through peak flow simulations using the HEC-HMS software for return periods of 50, 100, 500, 1000, and 2000 years. The model development involved processing information provided by national and private entities, which allowed for the delineation of the Iruro subbasin and the acquisition of its morphometric parameters. The collected data were processed to determine the maximum 24-hour precipitation, which was subsequently disaggregated using the Dick and Peschke method to enable input into the HEC-HMS software. The results indicated peak flows of 142.9 m³/s for 50 years, 176.2 m³/s for 100 years, 273.6 m³/s for 500 years, 325.4 m³/s for 1000 years, and 383.7 m³/s for 2000 years. Using the maximum flow calculated for a 1000-year return period, the spillway of the dam was sized. These findings support the effective design and management of regulatory works in the Iruro River subbasin, ensuring resilient and efficient hydraulic infrastructure
