In 2020, vehicle sales in Peru fell dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic and mobility restrictions, resulting in a near-total shutdown between March and May. By mid-year, as restrictions were gradually lifted, sales began to recover, particularly in the demand for smaller vehicles. In 2021, motorcycles established themselves as an economical mode of transportation, boosting their sales, especially with the growth of home delivery services. The company in question positioned itself as a leader in the sale of smaller vehicles, achieving a 50% market share in both 2020 and 2021. Despite this success, the Callao plant experienced prolonged processing times for motorcycle orders, negatively impacting the company’s finances and customer experience. This research arose from the need to improve the logistical cycle in the preparation of motorcycle orders, which is the company’s most profitable product line. Initially, the logistical cycle time was 5 days, exceeding the technical gap established in the automotive sector. Order cancellations resulted in significant losses; in 2021, the company recorded a loss of $ 149, 835.12 representing 2% of its annual sales. To address this issue, a model based on SLP (Systematic Layout Planning), the 5S methodology, and ABC Analysis was implemented. Thanks to these strategies, the processing time was reduced to 3 days, which not only represents a considerable improvement in operational efficiency but also aligns with industry expectations. This reduction in the logistical cycle allows the company to minimize cancellations and enhance its profitability, strengthening its market position.
