Despite the growth of the mining industry in Peru, investment has decreased by 9.9% compared to 2022, which poses a risk to the continuity of investment, especially in equipment. In 2023, mining represents a total investment of US$4715 million, with 17.4% destinated to mining equipment. This research work proposes an improvement implementation based on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Weibull distribution, aiming to increase the mechanical availability of hydraulic drills to 95% compared to the sector. The requirement to optimize equipment availability is fundamental to reduce the risk of declining investments and to ensure the sustainability of the sector, since an economic loss of $192,200.00 is identified in 2023, representing 11.07% of the annual turnover of the company under study. Simulation tools were implemented in Arena Simulation software, which validated the proposed model and demonstrated an increase in rig availability from 85.42% to 90.16%. The maintenance model not only improves equipment availability but can also contribute to the optimization of operating costs. In conclusion, the application of RCM and Weibull distribution is effective in increasing mechanical availability and reliability and reducing maintenance costs in the mining sector, which can contribute to the recovery of the mining industry.
