The objective of this research work was the relationship between the variables student engagement and academic procrastination in the students of the San Juan de Lurigancho and Los Olivos campuses of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega University. The stratified random sample was made up of 141 students from study cycles II, IV and VI. The research had a quantitative approach, correlational scope, and non-experimental cross-sectional design. The data collection instruments administered were the University Student Engagement Inventory (USEI) and the Academic Procrastination Scale. The content validity and reliability of these instruments were evaluated, with Aiken's V coefficient and Cronbach's coefficient respectively. The data collected were analyzed with the parametric Pearson correlation statistical test (r) for the evaluation of the general hypothesis between the variables student engagement and academic procrastination, and the specific hypotheses between the dimensions of student engagement and the variable academic procrastination. The findings showed the existence of a moderate and statistically significant (p < 0.05) inverse influence of student engagement on academic procrastination, as well as the relationships between the dimensions of student engagement (cognitive engagement, behavioral engagement and affective engagement) and academic procrastination in the surveyed students of said university professional career.
