The purpose of the research was to determine the influence of reading habits on the optimization or improvement of reading comprehension in students at the primary level of Educational Institution Nª 32926 Mariscal Cáceres of the district of Amarilis - Huánuco in 2016. It is an investigation of Applied type, because their results enrich scientific knowledge; assumes the experimental design of the Quasi-experimental type of single sample, because it establishes the influence and / or effectiveness of one another variable: Reading habits and reading comprehension. The sample consisted of 21 students. Two instruments were applied: survey of satisfaction of application of reading habits that consisted of 15 items and a performance test - reading comprehension that consisted of 20 items. Both have been validated by expert judgment and have an adequate level of reliability: 0.890, and 0.860 respectively. The results show that there is a significant influence of reading habits towards the optimization of reading comprehension obtaining a correlation of rxy = 0,891, that is, a strong positive correlation, also the hypothesis test confirms it / to = 4,121 / is greater than / tc. = 1,724 /, there being a significant influence between the study variables
