The objective of this research work was to observe the inferential understanding in 4-year-old students in the "Retoñitos" classroom and the acquisition of fundamental ideas. Inferential understanding was considered as a process through which the human being interacts with the elements of his environment and achieves an adequate representation of reality, to think about reality and create an objective image of it that is thought about and generates ideas. to be expressed in dialogues and as answers to the questions that are formulated after listening to the narration of a story. To evaluate the learning of fundamental concepts, the Magallanes TEST of vocabulary of fundamental spatial, temporal, quantitative, qualitative, size and shape concepts was used and the following characteristics of the levels of understanding of narrative texts - inferences, referentials, instrumental inferences, predictive inferences and inferences about emotional reactions through the responses generated from the questions asked after the narration of the story "Grandma Micaela". The methodology of the study was descriptive correlational. 25 children constituted the sample group we worked with. 4-year-olds' inferential understanding and acquisition of fundamental concepts were found to be connected. The results of this study provide important and meaningful information about how young children learn fundamental ideas at age 4, which informs inferential understanding.
