The objective of this research work was to analyze the cognitive demand of the tasks related to fractions that are solved by the students of the sixth grade of Basic Education. Regular in the development of the competition Solve problems of quantity. The study will It is framed in the qualitative, descriptive approach and multiple case study design. The techniques used for data collection were content analysis, pedagogical test and the semi-structured interview, the latter allowed to corroborate the data collected in the other techniques. The sample consisted of 27 students and 3 teachers of sixth grade of Primary Education of a public educational institution, selected through non-probabilistic and intentional sampling. As a conclusion, it obtained that the cognitive demand of the tasks referring to fractions that solve the students of the sixth grade of Regular Basic Education in the development of the competition Solve quantity problems, it is low level, that is, students solve mostly connectionless procedural tasks that involve solving algorithms and focus on the correct answer rather than understanding the mathematics, limiting the competency development Solve quantity problems.
