The problem of the case study is stock outs in the stores of a grocery supermarket chain that manages the supply of its products from its distribution center. The problem described generates a significant economic impact due to losses due to stock outs (S/. 2,259,899) which represents 5.73% of sales in the grocery category. After performing the analysis of the current supply process, the root causes were identified as forecasts with high MAPE, low accuracy in the execution of purchases and long journeys due to poor location of stock in the DC. Likewise, thanks to the review of the literature, it was determined which tools are applied to attack the root causes. To address these causes, a comprehensive solution is presented that was validated as a pilot in the Lima DC, which proposes a DDMRP (Demand Driven Materials Requirements Planning) inventory management model for supply planning and the ABC Multicriteria tool to streamline the order preparation process. The main result indicates that stock-outs in stores are reduced from 14.2% to 9.5% and it is concluded that the model is suitable for supply planning in a supermarket chain.
