Peru has a great diversity of natural and cultural resources, among them the twelve World Heritage Sites registered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), including the Historic Sanctuary of Macchupicchu and Huascaran National Park, places that also they are very frequented by domestic and foreign tourist. Since 2009, the State througt the National Service of Protectec Natural Areas (SERNANP) promotes tourism projects through the modalities of the granting of rights, which seek to generate economic income for the conservation of Protected Natural Areas (ANP) already in turn, involve peasant communities as tourism managers. Under the modality of granting of the “contract” right, the communities offer tourist services in the permitted areas within the ANP. A specific case of this modality is the Contract of Tourist Services to the Interior of the Huascaran National Park (PNH) that was granted to the United Farm Community. We will win to execute it in a term of five years (2014 – 2018). This contract ended in 2018 and to date SERNANP has not evaluated the compliance and impacts generated by this project. The thesis proposes indicators of tourism sustainability, based on the methodology of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which established three phases: research, design of indicators and application. For the purposes of this investigation, the first and second phases were developed. The proposed indicators measure six fundamental areas that ensure the sustainability of these projects such as a) community management and governance, b) ANP management, c) tourism product, e) social aspect and f) environmental aspect, considering the first three as transversal component to the others. The application of this tool will allow the state to know if this mechanism has been effective or, on the contrary, has not had the expected impact in order to make effective decisions regarding future contracts signed with communities.
